  About Us  > SPAM Act Compliance

On 10th April 2004 Australia's new SPAM Act became effective. This regulates the sending of electronic messages, including email, of a commercial nature.

According to the Act, emails we send to you from now on:

  • must not be sent without the prior consent of the recipient. (That consent may be express or implied ("reasonably inferred") from the conduct, business and other relationships of the person or organisation concerned.);

  • must contain a functional unsubscribe facility;

  • must accurately identify the sender of the message.

At VetStop we dislike receiving SPAM as much as you do. We have made sure our customer contact procedures comply with the new Act and will also make any changes that future updates to the Act may suggest.

Consent
According to the Act, Spam is considered a commercial electronic message which has been sent without the consent of the recipient.
All commercial emails sent by VetStop have been to users who have expressly consented to receive emails either by:

  1. actively joining our subscriber list by supplying their name and email address or,

  2. by ticking a box during the checkout process at our shop indicating they would like to joining the subscriber list. This box is initially un-ticked and therefore requires an 'active step' to give consent

At VetStop we have not gained email addresses from lists or collected them from emails sent to us.
We also now use a double opt-in procedure for our subscriber list. This means new subscribers will receive and email which requests they confirm their subscription to our list. While this is not required by the Act, it is considered best practice for subscriber list
management

Unsubscribing
We have a functional unsubscribe facility. The 'unsubscribe' button / link on our emails automatically removes the email address from our mailing list. There is also an email address supplied which can act on unsubscribe requests as well.

If you no longer wish to receive our monthly newsletter emails then you can unsubscribe here. Please note this email must be sent from the same address to which we send the newsletter or the email address should be in the body of the email. This is so we know which email address to remove.

If you do not unsubscribe it will be considered as 'implied consent'

Sender Information
Each email we send has a signature with contact details for us. This will either be in the form of our web site address or the sender's email address.
