PAW Denosyl Tablets (30)

Tablet size:

Denosyl can be used in any situation where the liver function is impaired. This could be short term treatment following a toxin, long term treatment due to a degenerative illness, or preventative treatment in senior pets with impaired liver function.

The liver is a large organ in the body that performs many life-essential functions. It manufactures a vast number of hormones, enzymes, proteins, and other substances that are essential for life. It also removes waste products from the bloodstream and metabolises them to a form that can be excreted by the body. This removal of waste products is important because toxins can damage the membranes of cells in the liver and other organs.

When liver function is impaired, the exact cause can often be difficult and take time to determine. Supporting the liver, regardless of the cause, is essential if function is to be improved. Denosyl has been shown to aid in the hepatic detoxification mechanisms, helping the liver to function during times of stress. It also appears to have an effect to protect liver cells from death and may also help them repair.

Denosyl contains S-Adenosylmethionine. This compound increases liver cell and red blood cell glutathione levels in cats and dogs. Glutathione is a potent antioxidant which can protect the liver from toxins and cell death. Low liver glutathione concentrations are seen in dogs and cats with decreased liver function.
Administration of S-Adenosylmethionine may improve glutathione levels in liver cells to help maintain and protect liver function

Dosage and administration :

Denosyl is dosed at 20 mg of S-adenosylmethionine / kg bodyweight per day. Because the (enteric coated) tablet must be kept intact to prevent destruction by stomach acid, administration range is based on the nearest whole tablet.
For best absorption the tablets should be given on an empty stomach at least an hour before feeding. Administer a few millilitres of water immediately following any tablet administration to speed passage of the tablet into the stomach.

Dosing rates:
90 mg Tablets - for Cats & Small Dogs - Up to 5.9 kg bodyweight : 1 tablet
225 mg Tablets - for Medium Dogs - 6 to 15.9 kg : 1 tablet; 16 to 29.9 kg : 2 tablets (or 1 large 425 mg tablet)
425 mg Tablets - for Large Dogs - 16 to 29.9 kg : 1 tablet (or 2 medium (225 mg) tablets); 30 to 54.9 kg : 2 tablets; Over 55 kg : 3 tablets

For those who have difficulty administering tablets to their pets, Denosyl Tablets may be disguised in a small amount of food.

The number of tablets can be gradually reduced or increased at any time depending on your pet's needs. This should be done in full tablet increments. Many pets are maintained long-term on every-second-day or every-third-day dosing.
